Term Paper TechHow to Write a Term Paper:Help with Term Papers, Resaerch Papers, Reports, and Essays |
SUCCEED IN SCHOOLStep 5: Writing Your PaperYour outline should be your roadmap as you begin to write your research paper. The best idea is to take your outline and just begin writing. Then, write, and write, and write. Don't worry about punctuation, spelling, grammar, or sentence structure at this time. Right now, you should be concentrating on getting your ideas on paper. There will be time for revising and editing your paper later on.Keep in mind that the purpose of instructors assigning research papers or reports is to cause his/her students to explore and expose a topic or examine a complicated issue. Examining a specific issue requires taking a position and defending it. It is not assigned simply to see whether the students know how to write a term paper. As you write your paper, make use of the notes you took from your sources. But, be sure you are not plagiarizing the work of another. What is PLAGIARISM? Simply put, plagiarism is the presentation of ideas or words of another as your own. You should never copy and paste from research papers or reports found on free and pay term paper sites--even if you pay for the privilege of accessing their databases. How can you avoid PLAGIARISM? You are not plagiarizing the work of another if you cite your sources, give credit where credit is due. This means if you are using direct quotes, summarizing, or paraphrasing the work of another, then you must cite the source. You must give credit for any information you use that is not common knowledge or your own ideas. Common knowledge includes information that may be readily available in dictionaries, encyclopedias, or taken from class notes. For example There have been several versions of Microsoft Windows, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP is a statement of common knowledge. Once you have completed your first draft, you should begin assembling your final bibliography. If your instructor has specified the format for this page (APA, MLA, etc.), and you are not clear on how to put this information together, the following websites will be helpful: For example, a book about Grace Murray Hopper would appear on your "Works Cited" page (if you are using MLA format) as follows: Williams, Kathleen Broome. Grace Hopper: Admiral of the Cyber Sea. Annapolis, MD:            Naval Institute Press, 2004. Return to another part of our handbook:
