SUCCEED IN SCHOOLStep 6: Revise, Edit, and Proofread Your Term PaperOnce you have completed your first draft, it is a good idea to have someone else read it and make suggestions. In addition, you need to read through you paper, specifically looking at whether the information flows smoothly in a logical manner. The first draft will likely require significant revision. Do not be afraid to make changes--copy and paste material from one part of your paper to another--rewrite paragraphs or pages that do not seem logical. Remember, if you are not certain what your final term paper should look like, you might refer to a sample term paper site. This will provide you with examples of completed term papers, including all citations and a completed bibliography or works cited page. The difference between revising and editing your paper is a matter of degree. Editing your paper means looking for subject/verb agreement, sentence structure, and word choices. Rewrite sentences as necessary. Proofreading is the final step in the process. During proofreading, you are looking for typographical errors, missing words, and misspelling. Do not rely on the spell check included in your computer software. The spell check does not locate words that sound the same, but are spelled differently, or correctly spelled words that are out of place.
